Locomotion, The National Railway Museum at Shildon

General Information

Locomotion, the National Railway Museum at Shildon is a partnership between Durham County Council and the National Railway Museum in York, and features a 6000 square foot collections centre designed using the latest technology in sustainable resources, and displaying up to 60 vehicles from the National Collection. Locomotion houses a cafe and shop, and incorporates the historic buildings of the Timothy Hackworth Museum. The collection includes the original Sans Pareil Locomotive, which was built in 1829 and which famously competed in the Rainhill Trials in the sane year. Themes of the museum look at the railway and social history of Shildon, sustainability and conservation, and the history of transport, and entrance is free.

Parking and entrance into the museum is free.
